1. Understand the Problem
This stage involves a lot of discussions with key players in the project and a lot of scribbling on any surface that is nearby. The problem always becomes clearer as a project progresses so I love to get messy during this phase and ask a lot of questions.
2. Research and Discovery
I love learning more about the people we are designing for, what they are currently doing to solve their problems and how we can work towards improving their lives. Some tools I use during this stage include user journey mapping, user personas, interviews with stakeholders and a lot of Googling.
3. Ideation, Prototyping, Wireframing and Testing
This is my favourite part of the process. This is when I make wireframes and try to approach our problem from various angles. I use paper, sticky notes, markers, recycling from the nearest bin, my iPad, scribbles, and Figma for making wireframes and testable products. Then I work on making a final prototype that looks good enough to eat.
4. Present Solution, File Handover and Party Time
This is the fun part where I present my solutions clearly and prepare for criticism, questions and nods of agreement. I make sure that my designs are ready for a developer to take over to bring our creations to life. I always test what devs creates and continue working collaboratively until... well, I guess it never ends, does it? We rinse and repeat and strive for continouous improvement like the agile nerds that we are.
